Company Information

Culinary Adventures started out as a sole-proprietorship by lifestyle chef, Irene Jansen in 2005. She started with contributing recipes to magazines and conducted cooking classes for small interest groups. She was also involved in cooking workshops for schools through Home Economics programmes, teaching students how to write recipes, plan menus as well as food presentation.

The idea to start a culinary consultancy organisation sparked off when Ms Jansen made a visit to the pediatric ward in a hospital and noticed many children were ill due to the lack of good nutrition. Ms Jansen pondered if more mothers were to adopt the mindset of cooking at home more often then their kids can enjoy healthy home cooked meals. After some persuasion from close friends, Culinary Adventures was established. Irene made it her mission to bring cooking back into the kitchen and make cooking quick and easy to cater to busy working mothers like herself.

Sister, Audrey Jansen later joined as a managing partner and Culinary Adventures went private limited in 2007.

Culinary Adventures has since branched out to conducting live food demonstrations for magazines and schools, writing food reviews and curating culinary musical performances among many other services.

About Irene Jansen

Irene Jansen

Irene represents many women in Singapore, who have felt inadequate and tentative about cooking when they started out. But the need to feed the family with nutritious food ruled over her initial doubting. Today, Irene is happy to share that adopting simple creative cooking methods can be fun and rewarding.

Irene has imparted her culinary skills through teaching master classes, conducting food shows and cooking workshops for schools and non-profit organisations. She also collaborated with some of the top women’s magazines in Singapore such as Simply Her, Female and Women’s Weekly as well as Food and Travel, a lifestyle magazine. Irene has worked with several established brand partners for her live food demonstrations and every such event was to drive her main mission: to inspire and bring cooking back into the kitchen.

She has taken her food consultancy business to both the local industry and international market where she planned dinner parties for multi-national companies and has worked with chefs from international hotels.

Irene has also done restaurant reviews for The Singapore Tatler and was a familiar voice on radio segments like 93.8 Live’s Buon Appetito and Foodie Lunch Pick, providing listeners with food reviews, useful culinary tips and tricks. She also blogs about kitchen tips and food reviews on Hungrygowhere.com’s editorial segment “Everyday Kitchen”.

Irene’s television appearances include:

  • “Planet Food - Singapore & Chennai” [Pilot Productions] - Aired on Discovery Channel Travel & Living
  • Okto Live” [Mediacorp] - Aired on Okto
  • So Simple” [Threesixzero Productions] - Aired on Channel U
  • Impian” [Upside Down Concepts] - Aired on Suria

In 2008, Irene’s projects include her debut cookbook titled Food Inspirations, which features 40 special recipes to tell stories of love and friendship. Food Inspirations has received positive reviews from The Sunday Times and New Paper and was featured on The Official Guide & Map by Uniquely Singapore. She was also featured in MICA’s food diary 2009 as one of 18 local food personalities. The diary was distributed to locals living overseas.

Irene Jansen married her passion for singing and cooking with “The Singing Chef”, a live culinary musical performance involving whipping up delicious dishes while singing out its recipes. It was held at the Esplanade Concourse for Flipside! in conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival 2010. Presently, The Singing Chef continues to make appearances for live food demonstrations to spread the important message that cooking is for everybody and not just housewives.

Irene’s recent projects involve curating culinary events as well as directing culinary themed stage performances for corporate and educational organisations.
